Ever wonder what it would be like if you were surrounded with green? On the weekend of September 16-18, 2016, I attended the Venturing Area 5 Legacy 4.0, hosted by Mecklenburg County Council VOA at Camp Grimes. I had the privilege to serve on staff and let me tell you, it was a blast! With over 400 Venturers there throughout the weekend, everyone had a great time. The theme this year was “101 things to do at Legacy”. They had activities such as a blacksmithing station, cowboy action shooting, box hockey, dance parties, and much more! When you arrived on Friday, you were greeted by campsite hosts (sounds familiar right?) and brought to your campsite before the dance party, and it was epic! Then on Saturday, all of the Venturers were able to walk around camp and participate in any of the activities. While walking around, you could not turn a corner without seeing fellowship between the participants and smiles on their faces. Being there reminded me of the fun times that we all have at Dixie Fellowships, and I am very happy that I was able to be a part of this awesome event.
I would like to congratulate our brothers and sisters in Area 5 on a very successful event. It is obvious that no matter what part of Scouting you are a part of, you have the opportunity to have the time of your life, while also making a difference. In the upcoming months, the leadership of OA SR-5 and Venturing Area 5 will continue to work together, and discuss more ways that we as Scouts can continue to impact others in a positive way. I look forward to the future and I cannot wait to see you all at Dixie!
